I just got myself a Seagate 1.5TB internal SATA hard drive a couple of nights ago. Best Buy was selling the hard drive for 134.99 USD on their website, so I drove over to my local store and picked one up.  When I got to Best  Buy the hard drive was listed for 149.99, […]

Basics
The Sony SAL-18250 lens has a focal length of 18-250mm. The maximum aperture has a corresponding range of f/3.5 to f/6.3. The minimum aperture ranges from f/22 to f/40. Vancouver Island is a great travel destination full of opportunities to take photographs of nature and wildlife. Among the things to see are Orcas, Bald Eagles, Black Bears, Grizzly Bears, as well as beautiful coastline and forest.

For a long time I struggled with pale blue skies in my images, even if the sky was actually a deep rich blue that day. Although I have found that adjusting the exposure to make the scene darker helped a little, I still wasn’t getting the results I wanted.

Finally, I got my […]

Manually adjusting your white balance by adjusting the color temperature gives you the greatest amount of control over the colors in your image. Custom White Balance is a setting on many digital cameras that allows you to adjust the white balance based on the scene you are trying to capture. It is not based on preset White Balance settings and is therefore customized to your particular shooting conditions. It is not Auto White Balance where the […]

In this post I will guide you through how to use your digital camera’s preset White Balance Settings to take more control over your photographs. White Balance is all about controlling the colors in your image.
The Usual […]

This post is intended to explain White Balance for those who don’t know what the term refers to. This post is not intended as a step by step instruction on how to set your White Balance. Later this week I will post two entries on how to actually use the White Balance settings. […]

No matter what mode you are shooting in it is helpful to have an understanding of what the Exposure Value is and what Metering Modes your camera has, and what they do. When you understand how these two work together, you will be able to select more appropriate exposure settings, faster. With the […]

May 13, 2008 at 1:38 pm

This part of the series on How To Shoot Manual will focus on bringing on all the previously discussed elements together.
