Venice Pier Under Quarter Moon At Twilight

 Venice, California * September 22, 2009
The Venice Fishing Pier is located at the southern end of Venice City Beach. It juts out 400 meters over the Pacific Ocean, for a great view of the Santa Monica Bay coastline.

I like going to Venice City Beach to take photos, since the shore there is flat and you end up with large swaths of wet sand, which is great for reflections.

To accentuate the reflection in the sand here I had my polarizer on. To keep the sand in the foreground (and the reflection) and the pier in focus I used a relatively small aperture. The sailboat at the end of the pier is out of focus, because it is moving and I used a slow shutter speed to compensate for the small aperture. Tripod was necessary.
